IT HAS NEVER BEEN LIVED BEFORE!

My most often used quote is from a local radio talk show host Hallerin Hilton Hill. He opens his show each morning with. ‘Today is a brand new day. This day has never been lived before. This is your day. It is a blank canvas. You can paint your masterpiece.”
Unfortunately, most of us live today as if it were yesterday. Ridges magazine did an interview with me and in that interview they used the graphic of eating a lemon. The reason they did that is because when I lecture I often use eating a lemon to demonstrate how just thinking about eating a lemon automatically triggers subconscious responses. Thinking of sad thoughts or happy thoughts can do the same.
Remember what happened when you thought of eating a lemon, salivation increases pain in the jaw and we may even make a face. All thoughts create biochemical and physiological responses in the body. “Today is a brand new day” we can make it what we want by simply controlling how we think. Fear, anger, hate, guilt, and worry create responses in the same way thinking of eating a lemon did.
If you ask someone; “Do you know the time?” They will look at their watch and tell you the time, when in actuality you asked a yes or no question. The answer should be “yes” or “no.” Instead people evaluate the question then give an answer according to their past experiences. Unfortunately, that is the way most of us live moment to moment worrying about and responding to life today because of what was said to us, happened to us, or what we thought was said or happened to us in the past, or might happen to us in the future.
Our mind, brain and body respond to all thoughts as if they are real, whether real or not. Perceptions that we develop create responses to our bodies. It does not matter if the perception is true or not, the response is still as if they are true. When we watch a scary movie the subconscious responds as if what we are watching is actually real and activates the fight or flight response. A jealous person’s thoughts about what they think may be going on creates a jealous response even if there is no reason to be jealous. The same holds true for those who are depressed. Those who have fears of dogs, flying, closed in places, or even the fear of getting cancer. We create our own self fulfilling prophecies.
There is a part of the brain called the limbic system and it responds to what we think, say, see and hear. So remember Hallerin’s words. Today is a brand-new-day.” We can create our master piece simply by changing how we think and speak.
