Constant Eye Blinking

Dear Ron,

I am hoping that I am not being a bother I know that your Mom is ill, but I have a question and the people at your table thought it would be alright if I emailed you. I was contacted from a Sister at a local convent that has the disease where her eyes blink constantly. She has been having Botox which lasted 4 months and gave her some relief. The injection is now only lasting a couple weeks. She also has degeneration of her vision. I remember you saying you had a case like this. I think you talked about it in pain management. I would go through the DVD’s but I will get home from the convention on Tuesday and they have scheduled her on Wednesday. So I am hoping you will find time to refresh my mind, also do I need a referral for this. I will be seeing her at the medical clinic however that does not always mean a referral in her chart. Thank you very much.     I hope all is well with your family. You are missed at the convention.   Jane Govoni

Dear Jane,

Here is an outline to consider:

  1. Let her know that hypnosis has been used successfully before
  2. Use metaphors that have to do with normal eye opening and closing such as lights, blinds anything that is an on and an off.
  3. Deal with her stress – that is probably her problem
  4. regress to when her eyes were normal and let her remember what normal felt like
  5. Have her control her self talk about her eyes and the fact that she can’t stop
  6. when they start getting better – the first thought of what if it starts again will sabotage her.

I give mine the Coue book My Method.  It can be ordered from my web site as an eBook so you can get it right away and make her a copy..

I make comments like – I wonder what you are closing your eyes to

I wonder how surprised you will be when you begin to notice a wonderful changes in how well you can see

I wonder if it would be ok with you to take control of your eyes

Did you know that when we change our thoughts that we can actually change how our brain works and in doing so we can change our behaviors.

I wonder when you will decide to change this behavior

I wonder what will change in your life or what you will do differently when you start normal blinking.

Just imagine you are a normal blinker and that blinking is normal for you.

What would that be like… only you know… only you can change your mind… which will change your brain… which will change your behavior?

I wonder if deep down there was time in your past that your overactive blinking served a purpose… If that time has changed then you may return to normal blinking when ever you choose.

If your over active blinking has a purpose it is OK to be aware of what that purpose is so that if you wish you can deal with it in a more comfortable way.

This should get you started however the most important thing is to use the Basic Assessment from the NGH Course to get her profile on how she feels about the blinking

If she is being followed by a health provider I would do them the courtesy of calling or sending a message to let them know you have been asked to work with her. Keep HIPPA in mind.
